Haha this has been a long unrequited love affair until late last month when I finally made the trek to Alexandria with my dearest friend. I owe him a big thank you for willing to make that long a journey with me, I know you don't like public transport, so it meant a lot to me :)
I will be sure to visit there next weekend for their monthly markets and will update this post then, but I thought I had been leaving this to sit as a draft for too long so let's share it!
The Grounds of Alexandria is not just a place that people flock to for food. They come for the atmosphere, the monthly markets, the kids playtime, the animals, the socialising and more. It definitely reminds me of the nursery cafes that my parents use to always take me to as a kid, where you could watch the fish in the bubbling pond and hear the birds chirping in the trees while enjoying a nice milkshake and pie. The Grounds honestly is the best of both worlds: beautiful nature and delicious food (they even have a water feature!).

Ice Latte - $6
Definitely love the glass jar look, gives a sense of industrial charm and environmental sustainability.
Makes me feel less weird about using recycled jam jars for everything.
I like my coffee sweet, but the problem with ice coffees is that you can't dissolve much sugar.
Either way it was still lovely, not too strong or bitter, but I maybe would've liked more creaminess.
Chocolate Milkshake - $8
I loved the milkshake! It was thick, creamy, frothy, sweet and of course chocolately, but not too strong at all.
As you can tell by the colour the chocolate was not strong or overly sweet. It was a really balanced taste,
somewhat like Milo, which satisfies a chocolate craving while being not too sweet, but minus the unique Milo flavour.
Will definitely try the other flavours. |

The 'Ground' Burger - $19
With ground brisket beef, cheese, lettuce, dill cornichon mayo
on a brioche bun served with beer battered fries and chilli mayo.
The burger's flavour much resembled a big mac for me, and my friend agreed.
However, I must say the ingredients are so much fresher, meat much more tender and succulent
and bun soft with a slight crunch, so if you are looking for a real gourmet maccas burger this is it.
I must also say I loved the chilli mayo, better than any I've tried before (even Grill'd sorry) |

Chicken Pot Pie - $17
I think any time a dish tastes good enough for me to not add pepper,
is a huge achievement, because I add pepper to EVERYTHING!
I loved this pot pie, although it is a classic, home-cook dish, it was better.
There was just something about the thick creamy, cheesiness of the sauce
that tasted amazing and made the pie really rich and filling.
I also loved the pastry, it was just so, so, so fluffy, and had a subtle sweetness
that really paired well with the mild savoury filling.
Also who can say no to fries? They were well seasoned and tasty.
I also loved the rustic presentation, again bringing it back to nature. |
I still haven't tried the Grounds but really want to see what its all about, your post just makes me want to go more!
ReplyDeleteHaha sorry for making it look so unresistable. I think it definitely is worth the trek. During peak hours there is a wait, we were told 30 minutes, but got in within 15, which was no problems as we just wandered around and saw the farm animals :)
