Review: Meet Mica

Meet Mica is another Asian inspired cafe in Sydney. A hop, skip and jump from Central station makes it convenient to get to. Be warned this place is small and very popular, so on a busy Sunday we had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. The staff were really friendly though and we didn't mind sitting outdoors with the lovely weather.

My Cloudy Day - $6
(strawberry ramune topped with rose cream)
A very pretty drink. The cream was more like whipped egg whites,
had a rose flavour and was very airy but not creamy.
The ramune itself was lovely and fizzy, but the rose
cream overpowered the strawberry flavour.

Chai Tea - $5
Probably one of the worst chai teas we've had.
Firstly we much prefer chai lattes but decided to try something different.
This chai tea was very bitter no amount of sugar could hide
that bitter aftertaste. It was sadly not pleasurable. Apart from the
bitterness it also lacked that complex aroma of spices that chai is known for.

A bowl - $18
A "rice bowl" of barley, spinach, shiitake, miso maple chicken, butter corn,
onsen egg and green onions with dashi broth to pour over.
A lovely hearty dish. The dashi broth packed lots of flavour
but was also a bit too salty. The chicken was marinated and glazed well, and
still moist. All the vegetables accompanied the protein well and the barley
was also cooked well. Only negative was the proportion of meat to vegetables
to grains was lacking.

Lobster Congee - $18
A very popular dish on social media but unfortunately, for me, it did not
live up to the hype. Firstly, the star of the dish, the lobster was overcooked
in some parts, making it dry and chewy. They were relatively generous though
with a full tail. Apart from the lobster, there was a lack of toppings with some green
onion and bonito flakes. Again this made the portion of rice too much.
Some Asian greens would've added more variety and flavour to the dish.
I personally also love adding dashes of soy sauce to my congee as it is otherwise a very
plain dish; great for when you're sick, but otherwise quite bland.
