Review: Gardiner and Field

A lovely little cafe tucked away in suburbia near Armadale station. The cafe is quite small, with limited parking nearby. We had to sit outside on a sunny but windy Winter weekend. The food is a fusion of many different cuisines as pictured below from Italian flare to Japanese. They also make lovely different chocolate bar flavoured milkshakes.

Left: Cherry Ripe Milkshake  - $6
This really tasted like cherry ripe but also quite artificial and too sweet for me.
I would have liked if they actually used cherry ripe in the shake to add
some texture and more authentic flavour but they copied
the flavour quite accurately, so well done!
Right: Chocolate Milkshake - $5
Just your classic chocolate syrup based milkshake, nothing fancy
and definitely not worth cafe price. (Psst go Dairy Bell instead)

Okonomiyaki
Relatively small serving size but still filling. The okonomiyaki wasn't the
best I've had. It had large chunks of cabbage which made the texture
not pleasurable. It also lacked that crispy crunch. The egg on top was poached
well and the kewpie and bbq sauce gave the dish that traditional yummy
okonomiyaki flavour. Overall a decent dish.

Pulled Lamb Salad
A breakfast salad full of kale, beans, peas and pulled lamb in a
tomato sauce with a poached egg. I thought the lamb was cooked
alright, a little dry. I enjoyed the tomato sauce but wanted more of it
as the dish as a whole was lacking moisture. The egg again was poached well
and I liked the beans and kale but didn't care for the peas. They were raw and
too crunchy for me. I would've preferred more variety of vegetables in the bowl
e.g. salad leaves, corn, capsicum etc.
