Review: The Little Snail

I have little experience with French cuisine, but after hearing many good things about The Little Snail, I thought I'd go here for a special birthday, and it did not disappoint! We went for lunch, and the menu is very similar to the dinner menu, bar a few items, plus much cheaper. $39 will get you a 3 course meal at lunch versus $62 for dinner. You can also order a la carte but I recommend the 3 courses.

Salmon Roulade
Lovely slices of smoked salmon encasing a creamy mousse filling with a
crispy potato nest on top. Very aesthetically pleasing and a simple, tasty
starter to a three course menu.

Escargot de bourgogne
It's the name of the restaurant so how can you resist!
Lovely snails cooked in a herb butter with toasted bread to soak up
all that oily, saucy goodness. The snails were cooked well, moist and soft.
If you haven't tried snails before and are hesitant I say give it a go!
They don't have a strong flavour and the texture reminds me of bone marrow
meets squid. A bit of a bite like squid with that soft luxurious mouth feel of marrow.

Daiquiri
Daytime drinking is always a yes!
Lovely light and icy daiquiri with a very nice strawberry flavour.
Drinks cost extra, and this was $30 for a jug. It can easily fill
6 to 8 glasses so better for tables of 3+.

Veal Tenderloin
Well cooked veal swimming in a creamy mushroom sauce.
The croquette was superb, crispy crumb with a smooth, well seasoned filling.
The greens were quite lackluster, just some steamed broccoli.
Would've been nice to have more sides to go with it,
and maybe even some bread to soak up the sauce.

Citrus Marinated Tasmanian Salmon
Loved this dish. The salmon was cooked perfectly, still slightly translucent
in the centre with a crispy skin. The sauce vierge added freshness to the dish.
The only negative is a found the risotto to not be as saucy or runny as I expect.
It was very creamy and still tasted amazing though. The elements on the dish
really completed each other but I did find the proportions to be a bit off. More salmon
than rice or sauce.

Chef Churned Hazelnut and Praline Ice cream
Not being a big tooth, none of the desserts really appealed to me,
but I do love hazelnuts. I did find this ice cream to be too sweet for me,
but the texture and hazelnut flavour was superb.
The ice cream itself was really light and creamy,  definitely churned well
and I liked the crunch of the sable that also cut through the sugar.

Kahlua Infused Chocolate Mousse
Very elegant shape. I couldn't really taste the kahlua, but the mousse
had a nice dark chocolate flavour to it. It was really airy and the crunch
of the chocolate shell added a nice textural element. Simple, but elegant
and definitely can see it as a crowd pleasure.
