Review: LuxBite

I really am running behind schedule and I apologise for that...but this review is tuly worth the wait!

LuxBite is a modern cafe & patisserie specialising in macarons and gourmet cakes. Situated along Toorak Rd in the heart of sophisticated South Yarra, this petite little venue truly fits into the neighborhood, with its fresh, clean, white decor, decadent desserts and fine coffee. I must say I loved this place and will definitely be coming back to try their brunch menu!

Overall:

Food - 8/10
Service - 8/10 (having only 1 staff at the front, she was very friendly and apologetic for the wait)
Ambience - 8/10

Ice Chocolate with Macaron of the Day - $6.50
One of the best ice chocolates I have ever had.
I loved the scoops of ice cream and the use of dark chocolate powder
to balance out the sweetness. The serving size was very generous and the macaron divine.
I remember the flavour was pineapple based but I don't remember the exact name.
Green Tea Cheesecake - $8.50
Not much of a cheesecake in my opinion, but still had the layers of creaminess, sponge and crumble.
This was a very subtle cake and to me had very little green tea flavour at all
which was quite disappointing as I LOVE green tea. However I did love the textures.
Unfortunately I don't remember all the layers of flavour.
Banoffee - $8.50
This cake was not too my likely, which explains why it was my sister's purchase.
I am definitely not a fan of caramel or salty desserts.
In contrast to the above cake, this one was too over-powering for my liking.
I could barely taste any banana due to the strong caramel and salted chocolate flavours.
I definitely am against having any form of salt - especially large salt flakes - in my desserts.
Its just not a flavour combination my tongue can handle,
but to all those that love their salted caramel I definitely recommend this for its explosive flavour!
Endless Love - $6.50 (approx)
Definitely my favourite of the ones I tried. I just love macarons and this one was no exception.
Who doesn't love sweet raspberries and cream? It was crisp and moist and sweet and fresh. Loved it!
Meringue Monster - $10.50 approx
Obviously looks better in the store image below.
To me it tasted nice but not extraordinary.
I couldn't quite get my tongue around all the flavours but I definitely could taste the subtle rose water.
The sweet meringue was beaten to nice soft peaks.
I, however, could not quite taste the green tea base even when eating it on its own.
Overall this is a nice cake filled with subtle flavours.
Unfortunately some flavours were too subtle and did not blend well together.

Macarons (4) - $11
These had to be the best macarons that I've tried (not that I've tried many).
For a comparable price to Zumbo's I definitely recommend trying these.
The unit price also becomes cheaper the more you buy!
Being the secret chinese that I am, I went for all asian flavours.
Starting from top left to bottom right we have :
jasmine, green tea pistachio, bamboo oolong and pandan.
I loved all the flavours.
The oolong tea tasted so authentic, but sweeter.
The green tea had a true light green tea taste with a hint of pistachio.
The jasmine tasted exactly like the flower,
reminding me of my old home where the jasmines would bloom for my birthday each year.
Finally the pandan. It was mild in flavour and sweetness, tasting very natural.
Overall, I must say the best quality of the macarons were their
true to nature flavours, all tasting natural and not artificial.
The texture was also crunchy and moist with the filling smooth and soft but not oozing.

  2. Hi Natasha,

I've added a new feature so you can publish your blog posts on Urbanspoon yourself without having to wait for us to do it! Here's how it works:

    - Make sure you're signed into Urbanspoon.
    - Go to your Urbanspoon blog page (not your user profile): https://www.urbanspoon.com/br/70/12830/Sydney/Bourke-St-Journals.html
    - Click "Edit blog settings".
    - In the Pending Posts section, click "Edit and publish my pending posts".
    - Then, enter the "snippet" text, verify the date and URL, and press Publish.

    Please make sure that:
    - The URL should be the permalink to the blog post (not the blog home page, a category page, a post preview, or a service like feedproxy).
    - The snippet should be 2-3 sentences (quoted from your blog post) that gives an idea of what's in the post.
    - The snippet should NOT include bylines, dates, address info, captions, tags, HTML code, etc.

Note: there may be a delay of 1-2 hours after you post on your blog until our system detects the post.

We'll give you one week to do it yourself, then it'll go into our queue to publish.

Thank you for all of your contributions, and let me know if you have any questions.

    Best regards,
    Greg
