Review: Hakata Gensuke

I am constantly told this is one of the best ramen stores in Melbourne. With two locations, one in Hawthorn and one in the CBD, it is pretty convenient to get to.

It's a build your own ramen menu with different soup bases, ramen firmness and toppings. Adds up to about $15 each, more if you want a extra toppings and noodles. We also ordered to karaage chicken which was some of the best I've ever had.

Aka Tonkatsu - $14 (+ bamboo shoots $2 and egg $2)
Lovely mildly spicy broth with soft chasu pork and medium
firmness of noodles. Generous serving size and average price.
We combined it with a side dish and drink for $4 more which is
so worth it.
Chicken Karaage - +$4 to main meal with drink
I loved the juiciness of the meat and the crispy exterior, plus that
dipping salt and pepper just elevated the flavour of the chicken.
Hands down some of the best fried chicken I've had, and such
simple flavours.
Signature Tonkotsu - $13 (+ egg $2 and chasu pork $5)
Again very reasonable price and generous serving. The soup wasn't
ask thick and flavoursome as I would've liked. The best is still Gumshara
Ramen for me. However, the flavours were lovely, and as above all the
ingredients were cooked well and it definitely is a filling, hearty dish fit
for the middle of Winter.
