Review: Hawker Hall

Having been to Chin Chin and Kong, I had to try Hawker Hall and I finally did a few months back. The menu is definitely more refined than what you want find at hawker stalls in Singapore and Malaysia with some western twists.

Prawn and Ginger Dumplings - $13
Fancy, expensive dumplings of classic Chinese inspired flavours
that came with a nice sweet black vinegar sauce.
The filling was cooked well with a nice hint of ginger and pocket
of broth, but that skin was just too chewy and think. Almost felt
more like a glutinous flour dumpling than a normal dumpling.

Kottu Rotti - $11
Lovely crisp roti, not as flaky as others I've had though.
The filling was full of lovely spices and worked well with
the dipping sauce and fresh pickled cucumber.

Portugese Devil Chicken Curry - $18
They were not kidding, this was really spicy! And I can handle my chilli
quite well. The dish is hard to eat if you can't handle the level of spice
as the chilli pretty much knocks out your taste buds. If it was less spicy
I would've found it a lot tastier. The curry was creamy and chicken
cooked well but I had to eat it in small amounts with a lot of water!

Grilled Beef Short Ribs
The beef was tender but super fatty. The whole dish was also quite dry
and definitely needed more  sauce or vegetables to add
a bit of freshness and moisture to make that rice more edible.
