Review: South Society

Modern cafes are growing in the east side Waverley district. South Society is located within the Pinewood Shopping Centre. It serves modern Australian breakfast, lunch and dinner with Italian influences. The price is quite steep for the location but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal.

Pear & Ricotta Hotcake
Following the Top Paddock trend. A large, more cake than pan,
pancake topped with flowers, fruit, icing sugar and ice cream.
A beautifully presented dish, but a tad bit too sweet for my liking.

Gnocchi Ragu
A lovely moist ragu with a beautiful napolitana sauce, soft pillowly
gnocchi and shaved parmesan.

Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict w/ Avocado
The dish was on their Summer menu, and comes with pulled pork,
lime, pomegranate, 2 poached eggs, jalapeno hollandaise and pita.
I was underwhelmed by this dish. Firstly, my bread was burnt.
The dish also  needed more vegetables, not just some herbaceous leaves,
to combat the protein and dryness. The hollandaise had also split and
there wasn't much of it. The meat also needed some sort of sauce.
Overall the dish was quite dry and my favourite
part had to be the pops of sour pomegranate.

Breakfast Burger
A simple classic brekky burger with bacon, eggs, tomato and avocado and a side
of hash browns on a charcoal bun.
