Review: Vanilla

One of my local favourites for dessert. Oakleigh is packed with great Greek and European restaurants and cake stores. They are also open super late (1am most nights), making Oakleigh a great place for a midnight snack run. Vanilla and Niko's are the most popular, but I definitely recommend Vanilla, as they have a wider range and are of similar price. Most individual cakes cost between $5-$10 per piece.

Clockwise from left:
Hazelnut Dome
Using more hazelnut essence, than natural hazelnut, it contains that
alcoholic, cough medicine like flavour. The chocolate wasn't too sweet,
and the cake itself was of great texture
Strawberry Paste
My favourite of the three. The mousse was just so light and fresh,
really natural strawberry flavour and not overly sweet.
Tiramisu
Again, the cake batter was light and moist. Strong coffee flavour, balanced
well with the chocolate and sugar.
Clockwise from Left:
Bounty

No milk chocolate here, but the coconut was exuberant. I found the overall cake
a bit dry, needed more cream to compensate for the desiccated coconut. Flavour
also wasn't that strong, with no coconut or chocolate flavour really infused into the cake.
Mars Bar Paste
A thick mud cake, really decadent. I'm not a fan of caramel, or mud cake really,
so I wasn't a big fan, but I know this will definitely satisfy those who love their cakes sweet and rich.
Green Tea Mango Mousse
Strange seeing an Asian inspired flavour in a Greek restaurant, but this definitely did not disappoint.
Wasn't the best green tea or mango mousse I've had, but definitely wasn't bad.
The green tea just wasn't very strong, I found the whole thing a bit too sweet, and the mango
definitely predominated. Overall in terms of texture and appearance, the cake was top notch.
