Review: Granger Cafe

Another cafe in my hood. Went here the second week it was open. Staff were still learning on the job with a bit of a wait for our food and drinks, but I will definitely like to try this place again in a few months time when they hopefully broaden their menu and space.

Ice Coffee - $6
I can never justify charging more for an ice coffee when it is the same size as a regular
hot coffee. I always expect a tall glass, but nonetheless this coffee was really
smooth with a good level of bitterness for me.

Chai Latte - $5
Managed to get two cups of chai out of the one teapot but only half the flavour.
It really was quite bland, tasting like frothy milk with a tad bit of spices.
I am not sure where they source their chai or if they make it in house
but hopefully they have perfected the balance now.

Beef Brisket Sandwich - $17
The honest highlight of this dish was that chilli jam with its sweet,
sour and mildly spicy combination of flavours. It was of a great consistency
and went really well with those thick-cut chips (that could've done with more
seasoning). The sandwich itself was an odd combination for me with balsamic
onions, grilled capsicum and slightly tough brisket.

Chilli Eggs - $17.50
Not your classic chilli scramble, this one was three fried eggs with grilled capsicum, harissa,
the same chilli jam as above, some "pickled salad" and cheese on top.
The stand out components were again the sauces that added much needed flavour to the dish.
The eggs were slightly overcooked, with a soggy base, lacking that crispy fried goodness.
The fact that the yolks weren't very runny meant the whole dish was a bit dry and the bread
just made it worse. The pickled salad also really only consisted of fennel,
which was pickled really nicely but I would have liked some more variation on the plate.
