Review: Tokyo Tina

I have now tried 2/3 of the sisters, only one left to go is Hanoi Hannah, but why are they always so full?!?!? Never fear Toyko Tina was amazing, and if you are feeling like Asian food, a great alternative.

Salmon Tartare - $12
w/ crispy skin, cucumber and nashi.
I really enjoyed this dish, although I'm not a big fan of prawn crackers,
and could've just done with more tartare. The salmon was of great texture
and the nashi really added a nice sweetness and crunch to balance
out the citrus.
DIY Pork Belly Bao - $19
w/ pickled daikon, teriyaki sauce and kewpie.
The flavours of this dish were amazing, serious flavour explosion
in your mouth, however, the pork itself was a bit dry and lacking
seasoning. I loved the sweet teriyaki sauce that worked well
with the chilli and pickled daikon, and the kewpie added
nice creaminess to the dish. Also the buns were superbly light
and slightly sweet.
Ash Ramen - $18 (large)
w/ tonkotsu broth, pulled pork, ramen egg, charred spring onion
and black tahini.

Really worth the price, massive serving. The pulled pork was amazing,
really tender and soft, left plain to absorb the flavours of the soup.
The noodles themselves where a bit thicker and tougher, like buckwheat
noodles. There was a lot of spring onion in the dish, but I would've
preferred other vegetables. The soup itself was not the strongest tonkotsu
I've had, but the tahini added a nice flavour. The consistency
was quite thick and concentrated, making it a bit hard to swallow,
like thick oil trailing down your throat. However, it's not every day you
find black ramen, so I would recommend you give it a go!
Matcha & Cappuccino Custard Bun - $12
We were so full already, but just couldn't resist a matcha bun...
well more like I couldn't resist it and boy was it amazing.
Although the coffee and matcha didn't really compliment each other,
on their own both flavours were rich, full bodied and well balanced.
The airy mousse was so light while the matcha dirt added a bit
more crunch. The bun itself had a lovely crispy exterior
and sugary crust, while the inside was soft and sweet.
