Review: Hawa Charcoal Chicken

Late night dinner at 10pm, if kebabs didn't exist, where else would you go but a charcoal chicken shop. Now everybody knows El Jannah's and yes their garlic sauce is famous, but their chicken is just soooo dry, no amount of garlic sauce can make up for it. I must say that if you do go, try their wraps, they are packed with flavour, while their burgers are average. Anyway, this isn't a review of El Jannah's, instead my friends and I decided we should try something new (also a few foodies recommended this place to me), so we went to Hawa. It's a "new" charcoal chicken store, in Granville, literally just 10m down the road from El Jannah's. It definitely is a bigger space than El Jannah's and the setting looks more inviting.

There's even a little cafe for dessert and coffee
One and a half chickens - $10.95 (half), $21.95 (full)
Dining in includes pickled vegetables, garlic dip and bread in the price.
The chicken meat here is definitely more moist than El Jannah's,
but those black burnt bits did taste like carcinogens, so be warned.
I love chicken skin, but didn't manage to get much after I picked away all
the black ash. In terms of flavor though, the chicken did have a nice zing to it
and was seasoned well.
p.s. am I the only one that noticed buying the smaller chicken is cheaper?
Albeit only by 5c.
Large chips - $6
Seasoned superbly, good amount of chicken salt that was really flavoursome.
The chips were also fried well with a nice crunch.
